Data Science Courses & Institutes in India

Who publishes their fees, who hides them — and what a 2026 data science syllabus must actually contain.

We tried to price every major data science programme in India from its own website. Most of them do not publish a fee at all — you get a form, a callback, and a counsellor who discusses pricing once they've assessed how much you want it. That refusal turned out to be the most predictive signal we found, and it shapes everything in this category.

An institute that publishes its price has decided the price is defensible. One that hides it has decided the price depends on you. So our guides here lead with who is transparent — IIT Madras publishes precise, per-term fees; NPTEL is free with a ₹1,000 exam; Coursera's IBM certificate is one of the few with formal NSQF standing in India — and are explicit about who isn't.

We also weigh syllabus currency hard. Data science taught as scikit-learn and regression is a 2021 course wearing a 2026 price tag. What gets hired now is GenAI and LLM application work, MLOps, deployed projects, and the one skill nobody teaches: knowing whether an AI system's output is actually correct.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best data science institute in India?

On cost-per-unit-of-credibility, the IIT Madras BS in Data Science is hard to beat — it publishes precise fees (₹48,000 for Foundation up to ₹3.86–4.5 lakh for the full BS), lets you pay per term, lets you exit at a level and keep the credential, and offers 50–75% waivers for lower-income students. If you need a job within a year, a small-batch live programme suits better — but get the total fee in writing before any counsellor call.

Can a fresher get a data scientist job in India?

Usually not directly. 'Data scientist' is mostly not an entry-level title — people arrive at it from analyst or engineering roles. A fresher's realistic first job is data analyst, where PayScale's India data puts average fresher total pay at around ₹4.13 lakh. That's a fine start, but it is not the ₹12 LPA implied in the advertising.
